Intranets

What is an intranet?

An intranet is like a private mini-Internet, designed to be used by individuals belonging to one group, company, or organization to share information and communicate. Intranets are generally accessed via a browser and can be password protected to limit access. You can build one from scratch (like a regular Web site), or you can use a ready-made application.

Why are intranets useful?

Intranets can be very useful to organizations because of the full range of community-oriented features they offer in one online space. Intranets generally include a calendar, file storage, polls, discussion areas, e-mail, and more. They offer many opportunities for online collaboration.
