Discussion Forums

What is a discussion forum?

A discussion forum is any online space where people can communicate with each other. A message board is one type of forum, where users can leave messages and read messages and responses left by others. A chat room works in a similar way, but the messages are exchanged in real time.

Why are discussion forums useful?

Discussion forums are a great way for a group of people to share ideas or information. The format is ideal for people to post questions or ideas and then allow for others to post responses. A community-based organization could use a discussion forum to enrich a classroom discussion or activity, or provide a space for clients to share writing, links to favorite Web sites, local resource information, and more.
